On June the 13th 2012, I invited the Schmidt family (ADH) to give a speech during a seminar at the University of Konstanz, which dealt with social commitment in developing countries. With kind permission the university provided rooms and technical equipment for a one-hour presentation with consecutive discussion. As experts did the members of ADH give an account of their work in the Congo. Under the topic of “How does development aid work in the Congo?”, the Congo was presented as a country of differences. The speakers addressed in particular their new school project in Mushapo. At the end diverse perspectives were given of how development aid can still be successful in such a “chaotic” country despite all kind of difficulties and setbacks. The attending students and lecturers of the University of Konstanz followed the speech with keen interest. Observing how many questions were posed and the final discussion that took place, we concluded that we succeeded in making some participants to think about the topic. In this respect the speech was a great success.
